Assessment Framework
Assessment Framework
Assessment is a key stepping-stone in the first year for students to identify those areas of knowledge and transferable skills that may require further enhancement and development. Students should expect that each major has a mix of assessment methods, depending on the areas that they are assessed for.
The majority of courses in the program are assessed through exams, essays, presentations, attendance, and where applicable project-based or research production.
Each of these assessment methods bears a percentage of the students' overall achievement to meet the requirements for success at each level of study towards their degree.
Assessment is undertaken individually and in groups about both theoretical and more practice-based courses.
Assessment is continuous throughout each semester. Students must complete and pass all courses at each of the three years (11 courses) of the program of study leading to a degree.
Assessment in MU is an ongoing process aimed at understanding and improving student learning with regard to desired outcomes, programs, processes and resources inputs. It includes setting appropriate and transparent criteria that allow students to meet high-quality standards of learning. It is a formal endorsement of achievements and decisions on student performance in individual courses and overall profile.
The Faculty, as well as the University, aim to provide students with determined feedback-evidence of how they are performing and they permit staff to capture whether students have met the necessary standards for acquiring a degree by the end of the study period.
This means that the student's formative and summative assessment performance shall be milestones to evaluate those areas that require further development in order to meet the learning objectives, outcomes and expectation of each study level and towards the student's final award.
Considering the above obligations, marks can be modified in the due course of monitoring and confirmation procedures. Once the marks are ratified after being monitored and confirmed by the Assessment Subcommittee, a student cannot appeal against the awarded mark for an individual assessment.
Major Assessment Subcommittees and Award Assessment Subcommittees,
In the academic calendar, you notice that there are three main Major Assessment Subcommittee in an academic year. These Subcommittees are led by the Chair of the Departments including the Assistant Dean. Work submitted in Fall Semester, Spring Semester or Summer Semester will be marked and confirmed by the course assessment subcommittee in January/February, June, and July/ August.
The meeting of the Award Assessment Subcommittee is held one week after the Major Assessment Subcommittee’s meeting has taken place to confirm awards of students in the result of completing their program of study. Results (marks and awards) are uploaded on the MU-UMS within two working weeks following Award Assessment Subcommittees. All marks/ awards remain provisional until confirmed by the Subcommittees and results released.
