  Despite that Al Maaref University is a newly established higher education institution in Lebanon. National Defense Minister Yacoub Riyad Al-Sarraf

Currently the Lebanese Minister of National Defense. He is an engineer and a politician. He holds two engineering degrees: the first in Civil and the second in Architecture Engineering and both from the American University of Beirut.

He worked for more than 20 years in the profession of engineering in Greece and France before his return to Lebanon in the year 1999. He has more than 20 years of experience in politics and social work in Lebanon.

In public office, he held the office of Governor of Beirut, Governor of Mount Lebanon, Minister of the Environment, and Minister of National Defense.

He has a multitude of articles in Lebanese, Arab and international newspapers and magazines beside his heavy participation in TV, radio and newspaper encounter in Lebanon and the Arab world. He has earned many commendations and plaques of appreciation.
