BS in Mathematics
The Department of Mathematics offers students a contemporary and comprehensive scientific program, preparing them not only for graduate studies but also for better employment opportunities. Our program allows students to explore various aspects of current mathematics and applied mathematics within an integrated and diverse curriculum. It builds upon a strong foundation in basic mathematics, exposing students to modern applications, state-of-the-art approaches, and current methods of mathematical reasoning in introductory courses. Intermediate courses delve deeply into major fields of mathematics, and advanced students have the option to register for graduate-level courses, often focused on specialized areas of faculty research.
The Bachelor of Science program in Mathematics equips students with essential concepts, tools, and techniques, enabling them to develop a deep understanding for addressing universal and cross-functional mathematical study requirements. This program fosters a mindset that encourages ethical, creative, realistic, and innovative contributions.
The intended curriculum provides numerous choices and a variety of courses in the areas of humanities, mathematics, statistics, and sciences. Students will be disciplined with strong cross-functional knowledge linked to many other fields, a fact that provides students with competitive flexibility to pursue allied (or non-allied) interests. The curriculum will equip students with the dynamism needed to stay current as technologies and systems evolve.
Mathematics is often labeled the central science because of the instrumental and central roles it plays in all sciences, as well as in engineering. A bachelor's degree in mathematics opens up diverse career paths for individuals in the short term and over their lifetime, including graduate study in cross-functional programs, rewarding employment in industry or government, professional consultancy, analytical research, scientific management, science journalism, education, and much-needed teaching in high schools.
