Vision:
To be a leading department in fostering socially responsible, inter-lingual, and intercultural communicators equipped to navigate the complexities of the translation profession through a dynamic blend of theoretical knowledge and practical skills.
Mission:
The BA in Translation and Languages program aims to graduate socially responsible, inter-lingual and intercultural communicators that are capable of facing the challenges of their future profession. The program seeks to do so by striking a balance between theory and practice, helping students acquire the competencies needed to pursue both successful careers and graduate studies in translation.
Objectives:
- Develop Proficiency in Language Skills: Provide students with an excellent command of their mother tongue (Arabic) and two foreign languages (English and French) through comprehensive language instruction and immersive learning experiences
- Expand Language Proficiency: Assist students in acquiring an elementary level in a third foreign language (selected from Liberal Arts electives), broadening their linguistic repertoire and enhancing their intercultural communication abilities.
- Integrate Translation Theory and Practice: Introduce students to the fundamentals of translation theory (strategies, methodologies, approaches, etc.) and practice (different domains) through a balanced curriculum that emphasizes both theoretical understanding and practical application.
- Cultivate Research and Critical Thinking Skills: Equip students with research and critical thinking skills required for the accurate comprehension and production of texts, enabling them to analyze, evaluate, and synthesize information effectively in translation contexts.
- Promote Ethical Decision Making: Provide students with an ethical framework of reference for informed and justified decision-making in the translation process, emphasizing the importance of integrity, cultural sensitivity, and responsible professional conduct.
- Facilitate Career Readiness and Graduate Studies Preparation: Offer opportunities for internships, industry collaborations, and advanced coursework that prepare students for successful careers in translation and related fields, as well as equip them with the academic rigor and research skills necessary for pursuing graduate studies in translation, linguistics, and related disciplines.
