A Cultural Symposium at MU on the BA of Imam Al-Hassan (PBUH)
Marking the birth anniversary of Imam Hassan Al-Mujtaba (PBUH), the Faculty of Religions and Human Sciences at Al Maaref University held, on Tuesday, April 19, 2022, a cultural symposium entitled “Imam Hassan’s Reconciliation: Between Historical Consciousness and Contemporary Challenges”, at the university campus in Beirut.
The symposium was presented by the Scholar and Seminary Researcher Sheikh Kazem Yassine and attended by the University President Professor Ali Alaeddine and a crowd of academics, administrators and students as well.
During the symposium, Sheikh Yassin outlined the circumstances and challenges that accompanied Imam Hassan’s quest towards reconciliation, pointing to “the importance of historical and social consciousness of the Islamic nation during the days of Muawiyah where the imbalance of power fell in his favor; whilst the Imam endured supporters’ betrayal that forced him to safeguard the rest of supporters and loyalists. Otherwise, the Imam would have never reconciled with Muawiyah.”
In this regard, Sheikh Yassine delineated the societies of the Islamic nation at that period of time, especially the Iraqi and Levant societies, and how these societies, in particular, played the multiple roles that led the imam to seek reconciliation.
It is noteworthy that the symposium was also broadcast live via the “GoTo” application, to enable students and those interested to participate virtually.
