The "Sports" club at Al Maaref University opened a series of training courses exclusively for its members to learn chess. The first course entitled "Learning the Basics of Chess" started on Tuesday, May 2, 2023, presented by the student Mohammad Kourani, with the participation of 30 students from the club, at the University campus in Beirut.

Mohammad Kourani introduced participants to the basics of chess, providing a glimpse of the most prominent tactics and how professional players plan to start the game, offering a bunch of examples. Kourani also mentioned the principle of the "double fork attack", and the analysis of common signs that helps players understand the tactics of the game.

Mohammad Kourani also explained how to identify and avoid tactical errors such as leaving unprotected pieces, distinguishing between the most common and the least common signs, noting how to evaluate different ways to create a strategy using knowledge.
It is noteworthy that this course will be completed with three subsequent courses for participants at different levels.
