DTL Launches Specialized Club for its Students
On March 9, 2023, at the University’s main campus, the Department of Translation and Languages (DTL) at MU launched a specialized club for its students. Named “Kitab Wa Turjuman”, the club aims to promote multiculturalism, diversity, social responsibility, activism, and understanding.
The launch ceremony began with the recitation of some Qur’anic verses and of Ziyarat Al Yassin, followed by a short play that showcased the daily struggles of the students when acquiring a new language from scratch, namely French.
The Department’s Chairperson, Ms. Zeinab Anis Jaber, then delivered a talk emphasizing the need for the translators to understand the specificities of their own culture in today’s globalized world. She stressed the importance of creating a platform for students to interact, learn, and broaden their horizons.
The ceremony also featured a PowerPoint presentation highlighting the club’s objectives, structure, and activities. The club’s executive board members shared their visions and plans to promote cultural exchange through various events, including seminars, workshops, filed trips, and guest lectures.
Attendees also had the opportunity to win prizes in a lucky draw, followed by a cake cutting ceremony to celebrate the launch of the club. The event, which garnered significant interest from students and faculty members, concluded with a group photo.
