This event was organized by Basil Fuleihan Institute for Economy and Finance in collaboration with the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime and the Association (FiWi-Financially Wise), at the Institute’s headquarters in Beirut.
The program was delivered by four highly acclaimed professionals from the economic, public finance and taxation fields, with the participation of 14 students representing different universities, including six students from Al Maaref University: Hanin Hijazi, Nour Moussa, Hebatollah Labbaf, Fatima Mahfouz, Mustafa Taleb, and Muhammad Zureik.
The program consisted of four modules divided as follows:
- Why is Public Financial Management Essential to Better Governance?
- Public spending and the best valuation.
- Corruption and the Business Environment.
- Public Fund Management, Social Accountability, and citizen Engagement.
In the end, the participants underwent a self-efficacy form, a program and content evaluation form, and a pre- and post-program test, and they received participation certificates from the institute.
It is worth to note here that the program aims to enhance the economic and financial culture of the Lebanese youth to enable them to understand public policies, learn about issues of public affairs, form their opinion and allow them to monitor, analyze and hold accountable, and provide them with the knowledge, concepts and tools necessary to better understand the functions of public financial management, and define their role in promoting integrity. It also aims to enhance the analytical skills of young people to identify the links between financial governance and corruption in the public sector, and to provide them with the opportunity to practice their citizenship and discuss their views and experiences with their peers and experts.
At the end of the program, students took a tour to the institute financial library to learn about its services and how to benefit from them later.
