MCFA Organizes a Training Workshop on ‘Fact Checking’
The Faculty of Mass Communication and Fine Arts of Al Maaref University held a virtual training workshop on Thursday, July 8, 2021, entitled "Web and Social Media Fact-checking", presented and moderated by the Communication and Media Studies Specialist, Dr. Walid Hayouni from Tunisia.
MCFA’s Head of the Department of Journalism and Digital Media, Dr. Hatem El Zein, inaugurated the workshop, defining its importance, objectives, and underlining the necessity for media students to be able to verify the credibility of news published via the Internet.
The workshop then began with the trainer, Dr. Hayouni, within three sub-sessions:
- Defining fake news and fact-checking.
- Fact-checking tools – Verifying images, videos, using geographical location and weather data.
-Twitter’s verification tools are used to identify fake users and websites.
Students who shared their experiences with fake news and fact-checking at the end of the workshop engaged in practical activities by verifying some photos and videos uploaded on Lebanese virtual platforms using necessary tools.
