Ms. Jaber participated in a webinar on the occasion of WPD
On Thursday, November 19, 2020, and on the occasion of World Philosophy Day, the Sapiential Knowledge Institute, in cooperation with the Department of Translation and Languages and the Lebanese Association of Philosophy, has organized a webinar, via Zoom, entitled "The Philosophical Text and the Problem of Translation".
- The webinar was presented by three speakers: Ms. Zeinab Anis Jaber, Pr. Dr. Afif Othman, and Dr. Ahmad Majid.
- The three presentations revolved around the relation between translation and philosophy.
In her paper entitled "On the Relation Between Translation and Philosophy", Ms. Jaber, the Chairperson of the Department of Translation and Languages at MU, discussed the role of translation in introducing the Western and Islamic worlds to the Greek philosophy. She also pointed out the contribution of philosophy to the theoretical discourse of Translation Studies and shed light on the evolution of ethics in translation, especially the concept of faithfulness. At the end of her presentation, Ms. Jaber suggested what she dubbed “the vertical faithfulness” as an alternative to the traditional model of faithfulness which is not concerned with reconciling the personal and professional ethics of the translator.
The speakers were followed with questions from the virtual audience on topics discussed in the papers.
