Al Maaref University (MU), in collaboration with the Municipality of Ghobeiry and Al-Rassoul Al-Aazam Hospital, organized a blood donation campaign on Thursday, November 23, 2023, at the university campus in Beirut. The campaign was open to students and staff and was attended by the university's president, Professor Ali Alaeddine, the mayor of Ghobeiry, Mr. Maan Al-Khalil, the director of Al-Rassoul Al-Aazam Hospital, Mr. Hussein Shkeir, and several members of the academic and administrative staff of the university. This initiative aimed to express solidarity with our resilient people on our southern borders, in support of the wounded who sacrifice and shed blood in the face of Israeli aggression in defense of land and people, and to stand in solidarity with the oppressed and honorable people of Gaza.
After welcoming remarks by Dr. Talih Hamdan, the director of the Media and Communication Office, the Mayor of Ghobeiry delivered a speech expressing gratitude to the university and the hospital for their constant collaboration and support for humanitarian initiatives. He highlighted that "the municipality organizes blood donation campaigns throughout the year, contributing to alleviating the burdens on families, patients, and the wounded". Al-Khalil emphasized the importance of organizing such campaigns at the university, stating that they "come from participants filled with the spirit of youth, sacrifice, generosity, and collaboration, and capable of making sacrifices at all levels".
Next, a speech was delivered by Mr. Hussein Shkeir, the director of Al-Rassoul Al-Aazam Hospital, expressing gratitude to MU for hosting this campaign. He pointed out that the hospital supports all humanitarian initiatives that preserve human life, emphasizing that "this confirms that we are people who love life, but a noble and precious one."
In turn, Dr. Hussein Al-Hajj Hassan, the Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences, spoke on behalf of MU, welcoming the attendees and emphasizing the importance of blood donation to save lives. He stated that "it is one of the most important humanitarian campaigns and a continuous charity that an individual provides to give others a chance to live again." The dean highlighted the positive impact of donations on the donor, bringing about tangible and clear medical and psychological benefits. He expressed gratitude to all who participated in this activity, especially the nurses, coinciding with the occasion of Muslim Nurse Day on the birth anniversary of Sayyeda Zeinab (PBUH).
Following that, numerous individuals, including students as well as university staff, enthusiastically participated in the blood donation process.
