MU Reading Club Holds Seminar on ‘History of Shia in LB’ Book
The Reading Club at Al Maaref University organized a seminar on the book “Synopsis of the Lebanon’s Shiites History: Leaders, Identity, and Role” with its author, Dr. Ghassan Taha, on Wednesday, April 20, 2022 at the university campus in Beirut.
The author presided over the audience along with Dr. Yahya Farhat who also participated in the seminar that congregated students from various faculties.
At the outset, Dr. Taha presented the book’s abstract, delving into the approach he adopted and providing a quick overview of its chapters. The book includes a research approach to a realm of relations and activities pertinent to the Shiite sect in Lebanon, beginning with the Ottoman era and concluding with the era of independence. The author also pointed to the identity and features of this sect, as well as some elements of its similarity and differentiation approaches.
In the same context, Dr. Farhat shed light on the book’s most prominent segments and content which he discussed with the attendees; spanning the background of terminologies, the importance of researching the history of the Lebanese Shiites, and the marginalization and persecution of this sect which prevented them from maintaining a strong presence and enhancing an ideological congruence whose most important pillars are the schools and annunciation arenas.
The seminar concluded with a rich interactive debate between the guests and attendees.
