The CSR LEBANON S.A.R.L held its seventh annual Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) conference on Thursday, 26/10/2017, at the Phenicia Hotel, under the patronage of the Governor of the Banque du Liban, Riad Salameh. Students of the Faculty of Business Administration at Al Maaref University, Abbas Hashem and Mohamad Dabajah, participated in the conference.
The participants of the conference included Bishop Shukrallah Nabil Al-Haj ,the former Minister of State for Women's Affairs; Jean-Oguessabian, the European Union Ambassador; Christina Lassen, the former Minister Khalid Qabbani; the Colonel Joseph Al-Khoury Hanna; the representative of the Army Commander General Joseph Aoun; Colonel Salim Berjawi, the representative of the General Director of the General Security, Major Abas Ebrahim; Colonel Joseph Musalim, representing the Director General of Internal Security Forces, Major General Emad Othman; President of the Dialogue Party, Fuad Makhzoumi, and other bespoken economic and academic figures, companies and associations, businessmen from Lebanon and abroad, and representatives of civil society as well as a large group of university students.
The conference is one of the significant annual conferences on sustainable development, corporate social responsibility and management ethics, and which is in line and consistent with the vision of the Faculty of Business Administration at Al Maaref University. Important to note that the conference is also an incubator and a permanent platform for start-up companies, and humanitarian, environmental and social associations.
This year's conference addresses the issue of business and corporate "goal" and raises a controversial question. Is the corporate goal only to make a profit? Do we wake up every morning and work and scour for profit? What is the purpose of having a factory, bank, hotel, pharmacy, bakery, university, hospital or law firm? What is the real measure of profit in the end?
Such a conference experience for MU students is an added value that allows them to acquire new practical socially responsible skills that contribute to the development of their professional ethics, the discovery of the labor market, the right choice of career choices, and the appropriate thinking about the trends and future opportunities, and the preparation for joining the business world.
