The introduction discussed the advantages of working remotely, the importance of developing its mechanisms to enhance the remote communication among employees, and the benefit of different infrastructure communication to create a safe working environment for the employee,
Some of the highlighted advantages were:
- Reducing the daily stress due to less commuting between work and home.
- Improved work and life balance
-Developing person’s own self-motivation, self-discipline and time management skill.
Secondly, the results of “work from home evaluation” Al-Maaref employee were presented. Such results emphasized the above-discussed advantages.
Then, the participants reviewed the main disadvantages and challenges of working from home, including the difficulty of monitoring the performance of the employee, managing him/ her properly and the difficulty of providing the appropriate logistical needs for each employee.
Some of other issues were having outreach and communication problems, difficulty of maintaining the employee development process and upgrading their skills, as well as low employee morale due to the lack of team spirit, especially for the ones working in various geographical locations.
The main remote working applications that were introduced were Google Drive, Dropbox, Trello, Jira, zoom, google hangouts, etc. In this workshop, many positive aspects of these applications had been addressed, in terms of faciliatting the exchange of information, the joint work, the holding of meetings and symposiums, and the central administration, in addition to providing unlimited capacity to store information and having all services in one area and one place.
At the end, the participants received some practical advices to help organize their work from their home environment. These include the need to utilize the opportunities in regards to training and personal skills development, discovering the high productivity periods in order to make use of them, updating their daily to-do list, using planning tools and time management applications, organizing appointments, taking motivational notes, taking short breaks from time to time, exercising...

Responding to the challenges imposed by the Coronavirus pandemic that forced many institutions’ workforce to work remotely, the Human Resources Directorate at Maaref University had organized an online training workshop on Thursday, April 20, 2020, for the administrative employees entitled “Methods and Techniques for Working Remotely”. This workshop was attended by the directors of the Directorates, the administrative assistants of the faculties and a substantial number of University employees.
