MU Students Clubs Elections for the Year 2017-2018
The second students’ election took place on Saturday, Nov 21, 2017, at Al Maaref University. The Heads of six student clubs were elected. The election process wrapped up a two-week long campaign in which applications and registration were done, giving a chance to clubs’ presidency candidates to record a short competitive video. The total number of candidates was 38.
In light of Regulation 6 of the Student Clubs Policy, the candidates were elected in a secret ballot (behind a curtain) under the supervision of the Directorate of Student Affairs. The ballots closed at 1:45 pm, as a crowd of enthusiastic and consolidated students, eagerly waited for the results.
The election process was highly earnest and punctual; the percentage of students affiliated to university clubs was 38% in fall semester 2017-28018, whereas the total percentage of voters had reached 60%.
In this regard, Mr. Hussien Nasser, the Director of Student Affairs, wished all students good luck and success in this unique day.
The number of clubs’ representatives was settled according to MU Students Clubs’ Regulations. The results were revealed, announcing the new members as follows:
Members of Culture and Dialogue club: Ayman Lezzayk, Sara Ashour, Zainab Smaha, Mostafa Awada, and Rana Haitham.
- Members of Social Service club (Basma): Hasan Al-Zein, Zahraa Shokor, Hadi Balhas, Nourhan Shoaib, Alaa Rizk.
- Members of Sport club (Males): Khodor Kobaisy, Ali Swaidan, Hasan Ayoub, Asad Bandar, Jawad Kanbar.
- Members of Sports club (Females): Jinan Zaiter, Mariam Yassine, Sara Zriek, Doha Abo Merhi, Alaa Kassem.
- Members of Pioneer club for girls: Mona Assaf, Zainab Shokor, Hiba Dakik, Sara Farran, Fatima Hijazi.
- Members of the Reading club (Noun): Ali Al-Haj Hussien, Hussien Alawye, Ali Balaghi, Nizar Al-Husaini, Mohammad Ali Srour.
Students elected all members except those related to the Reading Club and Pioneer Club that were elected by acclamation because the number of candidates is equal to the number of seats needed.
Finally, after the members were elected, the election of the Clubs’ Presidents was opened to be closed after a short time announcing the names of Presidents:
- Head of Culture and Dialogue Club:Sara Ashour.
- Head of Social Service Club (Basma): Hadi Balhas.
- Head of Sport Club (Males): Ali Swaidan.
- Head of Sports Club (Females): Jinan Zaiter.
- Head of Pioneer Club for girls: Zainab Shokor.
- Head of Reading Club (Noun): Ali Balaghi.
