MU Students in An-Nahar's Visit
On Friday, 8 December, at its headquarters in downtown Beirut, the newspaper Al-Nahar hosted a group of students taking on the Reporting Practices course for Autumn 2017 at Faculty of Mass Communication and Fine Arts (NCFA)- Al Maaref University.
The MCFA students toured throughout the newspaper organization and were provided a chance to see the production cycle of the editorial material in the long-standing Lebanese newspaper of a legacy that goes back to the fourth of August 1933 when Gebran Tueni, the Grandfather, founded its development.
Tens of students arrived at the doors of AnNahar around noon time, accompanied by the Course Instructor, Haider Abdulah al-Husseini, and who were welcomed by the coordinator in the "Youth Day Association", Mr. Iyad Wakim, who explained the history of the newspaper and its course of development, pointing out the latest economic implications the print journalism are ending up with, which the AnNahar's conditions are no difference.
Iyad Wakim explained that" An-Nahar "had to reduce its staff in 8 years, from almost 400 employees in 2009 to about 70 today, and to reduce the number of pages from 24 pages to 12. However, he pointed out that the newspaper was firmly determined to dedicate its experience in the digital media world including various platforms of telephones, tablets, mobile devices, and desktops, and therefore taking advantage of the immense technologies offered by the latest web-based innovations.
While touring in the corridors of the newspapers, encountering different journalists and editorial sections in various divisions, diversified and enriching dialogues took place between the students and Mr. Wakim. Students had the opportunity to access the office of Gibran Tweini who was assassinated on the 12th December 2005.
