The clubs at Al Maaref University organized a seminar entitled “Non-Governmental Organizations and the Politics: Supervision and Law Gaps” at Thursday, 28 November 2019, with the expert and trainer in non-governmental organizations Khodor Salemeh, in the presence of academics, students and interested attendees.
Firstly, Salemeh spoke about the classification of organizations in Lebanon which have different directions; one party has a clear orientation and policy, other make their own law like syndicates while others work under the coverage of common interests such as organizations.
Salemeh pointed out that up until 2003, the authorization of any organization was very difficult with many complications, while after it was opened widely and simplified.
Salemeh drew attention to a report prepared by professionals in Lebanon that shows the presence of 20 thousand organizations, while only 800 of them are active in reality. This confirms the absence of control at the level of financing and its conditions, which mostly talks about renouncing violence and hatred and achieving peace, while most of the time its main goals are political.
Salemeh emphasizes that this is due to the marginal economic situation in Lebanon, and the graduates that doesn’t find suitable job opportunities which leads the civil society organizations to recruit and attract elites and influencers.
At the end of the seminar discussion was opened and Salemeh answered the audience’s questions.
