The Department of Media and Public Relations at Dhi Qar University in Iraq held a seminar  titled, "Towards a High Quality Research in Communication and Media Studies in the Arab World", on Wednesday 27 December 2017, delivered by Dr Hatem El Zein from Al-Maaref University.

In the seminar, which directed to the students of the Faculty of Communication at Dhi Qar University, El Zein highlighted the importance of media and communication and their impacts in our contemporary life, pointing to the dearth in the production of high quality research in the Arab World in this field. 

In this context, El Zein illuminated on the academic cycles and pathways to a research higher degree in the field of communication and media studies that lead to the production of good quality research, focusing on the status quo in the Arab World and the futility of the current curriculums because they are generally old and they do not equip the students with the language and the skills required to pursue successfully in a research higher degree. 

In this vein, El Zein pointed to a package of recommendations to bridge the current gap.

At the end of the seminar, the Chancellor of Dhi Qar University Professor Riad Jabr, who delivered a speech about the significance of media in the war on terrorism in Iraq, awarded Dr El Zein with a certificate of appreciation, wishing him success in his academic and research career.
