Translation Induction Day
On Wednesday, October 9, 2019, the Department of Translation and Languages organized an Induction Day for its first-year undergraduate students. The day targeted new starters, giving them the opportunity to get to know other students and staff and find out more about their major so they are fully prepared for their new milestone at Al Maaref University.
Zeinab El Amine, the Department Assistant, gave an overview of the translation undergraduate program, highlighting the differences between the various parts of the curriculum. She then introduced students to new terminology that they will run into during their studies and explained graduation requirements, including the mandatory DELF B2 and IELTS tests about which three senior students delivered interesting and motivating testimonials.
After a warm welcome, Zeinab A. Jaber, the Department Chairperson, addressed the attendees on the recent developments and issues pertinent to translation. She gave some useful tips to the students on how to prepare themselves in order to successfully face challenges and overcome potential academic difficulties.
In their turn, faculty members shared their individual experiences and gave students some valuable advice than can help them in their academic journey and their future career. They also discussed the options and opportunities available to the students after graduation.
Afterwards, Jaber honored the three senior students who won Best Translation in the Community Translation class, offering them both certificates and monetary prizes.
The day ended with a fun competition where students showcased their interest in and retention of the information discussed during the event.
