Al Maaref University Celebrates Cultural Diversity
Considering the International Day for Cultural Diversity, on Thursday, May 31, 2018, the Department of Translation and Languages at Al Maaref University organized a one-day exhibition to celebrate the special occasion, in cooperation with the Lebanese Professional Craftsmen's Union and the Palestinian National Heritage Society. The event represented an exuberant and well-timed opportunity for dialogue, development and exchange of ideas among different people, students and parents, from different walks of life. It was an indispensable gathering that allows students to be in contact with innovative and creative industries and business ventures.
The exhibition included platforms for the range of cultures and customs of countries from the five continents. For each culture, there was a "station" in the courtyard of the University, where wooden figures representing the peoples of these continents in their traditional dress were displayed. In addition, the courtyard had numerous musical cultural performances and engaging activities, including storied marriage habits around the world, with different types of home products and artifacts such as henna, leather accessories, hand soap, packaged food, traditional dress, cultural books, toys for children and adults.
The exhibition was attended by many students from different schools and universities, as well as accompanying parents, professors and those interested in cultural and handicraft affairs. They toured its courtyards, curiously having a close look at the enriched embodiments of different cultures of world, and purchased various products as well as services to encourage handicraft professions.
